35 little wins to make every day better

35 little wins to make every day better

A study done in February this year by WeBuyAnyCar (no idea why they did it either) has found that four out of five Brits look out for little wins to perk up their day. So with that in mind, here are 35 little win suggestions each of which has the power to make your day that little bit perkier.

1. Take five deep, slow breaths in and out. And consciously lower your shoulders

2. Stand in your shower for 30 secs (or more) with the water running cold before turning it to hot (go on, you can do it!)

3. Resist eating that (extra) biscuit/piece of cake/slice of bread

4. Indulge yourself and eat that (extra) biscuit/piece of cake/slice of bread

5. If something teccy goes wrong, see if Dr Fixits Google and YouTube mean you can sort it out yourself (and then give yourself an almighty pat on the back when you do)

6. Ditto when you take on and successfully complete a DIY task

7. Do half an hour (or more, go you) of exercise

8. Get outside, even if it’s only for a few minutes. Or a quick walk around the block

9. Sharpen your knives (honestly, its amazing what a difference it makes to the whole food prep/cooking process)

10. Dance around the kitchen (or indeed any other room in the house)

11. Walk up the stairs instead of taking the lift, or standing on the escalator (clearly this doesn’t apply in your own house, unless you have either of those installed at home. In which case, really?!)

12. Pay it forward - when you buy a cup of coffee, pay for one for someone else

13. Don’t save things for best - wear and/or use them every day

14. Sing!

15. Pay someone (or several someones) a compliment

16. Say thank you to someone

17. Cook a new recipe (maybe one from the Heydays newsletter!)

18. Pick up some litter

19. Say no!

20. Say yes!

21. Search for the word “unsubscribe” in your emails, and then do that on as many as you can

22. Floss your teeth

23. Buy a plant to have in your home. Think you’ll kill it? Buy a fake one. Honestly, they’re so good these days, you can hardly tell the difference

24. Check how you’re sitting. If you’re slouched over your desk/laptop, straighten up. And uncross your legs

25. Recycle everything you possibly can. Better still, reuse it. Especially every kind of plastic bag (the ones in your cereal box, opened out, are incredibly versatile and useful)

26. Send someone a message/text to say you’re thinking of them. Or even better, call them

27. Put a (squirrel proof) bird feeder in your garden

28. Hang your washing outside on the line (clearly this doesn’t apply when it’s tipping it down)

29. Drink - ideally 6-8 cups of water (still or fizzy), plain or fruit tea, or coffee, a day (sorry, alcohol doesn’t count towards the total. But you knew that)

30. Look closely

31. Listen and pay attention. Not so much to conversations, tho clearly that’s important too, but to the sounds around you. Taking time to focus (see win no. 30) is surprisingly calming

32. Remember to cancel a subscription before the free trial ends (put a reminder in your diary)

33. Go to bed earlier. And leave your phone in another room. Ideally switched off

34. Check down the back of the sofa, or in coat pockets, or in bags you’ve used recently. It’s amazing how often you’ll find money there!

35. Tell someone you love them

Are there any little wins you’d add to the list? Do put them in the comments!
